Leveraging on Artoolkit SDK, we are now offering 3D Augmented Reality development on the iPhone platform (3GS and above).

Customised app will allow users to detect a marker and a 3D object (animated optional) will be augmented over the video feed in real-time.

Multiple markers with multiple 3D objects will also be possible.

I was fortunate to be interviewed by Hedirman, for his article on Augmented Reality.

“You might soon see a lot more commercial uses of AR here. Mr Shen W
Heng, creative director of local interactive design firm H1Studio (http://ar.h1studio.
com) gets up to three enquiries a month on AR-based applications from companies.
His firm is developing a website for Samsung that will employ AR to promote

App is powered by OpenCV, not sure how it performs on all skin tones (RE: HP webcam saga - facial recognition is not racists), so do give it a go.

We were flattered when Jason Calacanis, CEO of Mahalo.com (if you are on Twitter, do try asking @answers any question), posted a screenshot on his blog.

If you have a webcam, give this Augmented Reality / Mixed Reality app a try. This is slightly different to the usual AR work we have done, as it makes use of facial recognition to detect the positions of your eyes / nose / mouth, and then overlays an image over the video feed. It also repositions and rescales according to your movement. We can also add in animated overlays to make things more interesting.

H1Studio does Augmented Reality

We have been experimenting with Augmented Reality (via FLARToolkit) for several months. With the recent popularity of Augmented Reality applications such as Tonchidot’s Sekai Camera, GE’s SmartGrid and Mini Cooper’s Print Ad for Augmented Reality , we are now expanding our suite of services to include this.

We are doing some R&D work for Augmented Reality on Symbian OS, Windows Mobile and Iphone, hopefully launching in 2-3 months time.

Demo 1: The new Apple® iPod Shuffle™ - When Apple® released the new iPod Shuffle on 11th March, someone asked me, I wonder how small it really is. So we created a model of the 3rd Generation Shuffle™ in 3D*, animated a “un-tangling the cords” sequence and ported it over to Flash, so that you could easily gauge how tiny this product actually is, without having to go to the stores.

This can be applied to consumer products, think clothes, bags, mobile phones, notebooks, cameras etc.
